How do leaders help them cope with such an overwhelming experience?

When you're at war, I think that having anyone to help you cope with your experience is helpful. As seen in the Pacific, those soldiers were already prepared to go to war, but they weren't aware of how different they'd be psychologically.  With all of the crazy and intense things that one witnesses while at war it can really change the way they think about certain things. In The Pacific, when Manny Rodriguez saved his friend John Basilone's life, John later realized how easily someone can lose their lives in such an instant. Because Basilone was a leader among the rest of the troops in his group, he and some of the others were able to pull through the war and succeed in killing the Japanese. Being a leader in such a tough time and situation like that can be stressful especially if you're the one that the others look up to for advice and on what to do. John Basilone did a great job at doing this. Not only are troops like John good at being a leader, but even some of the older officers and generals in the armies. They too can help their fellow soldiers cope with such overwhelming experiences. In the end, these soldiers have learned a lot of lessons on life and tend to come home a different person, but in a good way. Leaders in the war help the others cope by encouraging them, giving them words of advice, listening to their stories of their lives at home, and even tell each other to move on when something tragic has happened in the war. It can be tough, but it is also something that all of those soldiers would love to and loved to have. :)

  1. Yeah I agree with you. John Basilone did a great job in the war. He also had the courage and the bravery to keep on fighting despite the Japanese who came running at him. Those soldiers do need people to talk to and help them with their problems. They used their comrades to deal with their problems.
